Vitality for Veterans: Yoga for Body and Mind

Bringing Yoga to Those Who Have Served

At the YTOB Foundation, we believe yoga is a powerful tool for resilience, strength, and connection. In 2025, we are launching an initiative tailored for veterans, offering priority-based yoga scholarships to support their physical and mental well-being.

Yoga is scientifically proven to reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, and enhance flexibility and strength. Through a combination of mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation, veterans can experience a holistic approach to wellness. More than just a physical routine, yoga fosters a sense of belonging and personal growth.


Why Yoga for Veterans?

Boise is home to over 14,000 veterans, representing nearly 6% of the adult population. Many navigate chronic pain, high stress levels, and social disconnection, all of which can impact their quality of life. Fortunately, yoga provides a proven and accessible way to address these challenges.

Veterans can benefit from yoga by:

✔️ Lowering stress and anxiety through breathwork and mindfulness
✔️ Increasing mobility and flexibility to relieve chronic pain
✔️ Improving sleep patterns by calming the nervous system
✔️ Building a support network through shared practice and community

Beyond its physical benefits, yoga equips veterans with practical tools for resilience, self-care, and emotional strength—both on and off the mat.


Expanding Community Scholarships in 2025

This year, our Yoga Scholarship Program is growing by 40%, allowing us to provide 400 scholarships across the Treasure Valley. Veterans who receive a scholarship will gain access to a weekly class for 12 weeks at a partnering studio, creating an opportunity to improve their well-being in an inclusive and welcoming space.

By increasing access to yoga, we aim to create a ripple effect—enhancing individual health while strengthening families, communities, and veteran support systems.


Building a Sustainable and Inclusive Program

The success of Vitality for Veterans relies on strong partnerships, community engagement, and grassroots support. To ensure long-term sustainability, we have developed key strategies, including:

🔹 Collaborating with Local Partners – By working with businesses, veteran service organizations, and wellness practitioners, we can secure sponsorships and in-kind donations that sustain the program.

🔹 Engaging Veteran Volunteers – Training and involving veterans and community members as volunteers helps reduce costs while strengthening the program’s support system.

🔹 Encouraging Peer-to-Peer Networking – Veterans who share their experiences and promote the program within their networks contribute to organic awareness and participation.

🔹 Hosting Community Wellness Events – Regular yoga classes, fundraisers, and wellness initiatives will foster camaraderie while providing financial support for future scholarships.

The launch of Vitality for Veterans marks another step toward local equitable access to health and wellness. Our vision is a future where every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive.
