Vitality for Veterans: Yoga for Body and Mind

At the YTOB Foundation, we believe yoga is a powerful tool for resilience, strength, and connection. Our Vitality for Veterans initiative offers priority-based yoga scholarships designed to support the physical and mental well-being of those who have served.

Yoga reduces stress, alleviates anxiety, and builds strength and flexibility through mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation. This initiative empowers veterans to heal, restore balance, and cultivate lasting well-being through connection, growth, and community.


Why Yoga Matters for Veterans

Boise is home to more than 14,000 veterans—nearly six percent of the adult population. Many face ongoing challenges such as chronic pain, high stress, and social isolation, which can significantly affect overall well-being. Yoga offers a practical and proven path to address these issues, supporting both body and mind.

Veterans can benefit from yoga by:
• Reducing stress and anxiety through breathwork and mindfulness
• Increasing mobility and flexibility to ease chronic pain
• Improving sleep and recovery by calming the nervous system
• Connecting with others through shared practice and community

Yoga provides more than exercise: it offers effective tools for resilience, self-regulation, and long-term well-being.


Expanding Community

This year, our Yoga Scholarship Program is expanding to provide 400 scholarships across the Treasure Valley. Veterans who receive a scholarship will have access to a weekly class for 12 weeks at a partnering studio, offering a supportive and inclusive environment to enhance their well-being.

By increasing access to yoga, we hope to honor those who have served and create a ripple effect by supporting their continued health, vitality, and connection within the communities they help strengthen every day.


Building a Sustainable Program

The strength of Vitality for Veterans comes from the veterans themselves—through shared experiences, mutual support, and community leadership. This initiative thrives on connection, collaboration, and collective action. To ensure its long-term impact, the program focuses on:

  • Building Local Partnerships – Collaborating with veteran service organizations, businesses, and wellness practitioners to expand access and secure the resources needed to sustain the program.
  • Empowering Veteran Leadership – Engaging veterans as mentors, ambassadors, and volunteers to help guide the program and strengthen its foundation from within.
  • Fostering Peer Connection – Encouraging veterans to share their experiences and invite others to participate, creating an authentic network of support and awareness.
  • Creating Opportunities for Connection – Offering yoga classes, community events, and wellness gatherings that celebrate resilience, build camaraderie, and support continued well-being.
